Thank you for taking the time to give us this valuable feedback! Book Donations Needed for Quarter 4 We are in need of multiple copies of 6 texts that we will be studying in Quarter 4. Chaperones: If you would like to be a chaperone, please let Ms. Murdick or Mrs. Dargatz know through email. A few things to consider/know are…
MOST IMPORTANT: You will need to be approved by the county as a chaperone. The approval process takes 2-3 weeks, and even if you volunteered last year, you’ll need to reapply for this school year. If you have already been approved this year, contact the front office to double-check your status. If you have not been “cleared” as a chaperone, you will need to come into the school and apply online. Teachers do not know your volunteer status, so contact the front office (919) 363-1870 for questions or concerns. The Book Fair is coming! The Salem Middle School Book Fair will run from January 23-31 in our school library. The fair will be open daily from 7:45am to 3:00pm. Students are free to drop in on their way to class before school or during lunch. Each class will also have a scheduled visit during the fair. If you are interested in volunteering during the Book Fair, you can sign up here. Shop online anytime! Can’t make it to Family Night? Don’t find what you want? We have an online shop, too! Find an expanded selection of books for readers of all ages, including older teens and adults. All online purchases will ship to the school for free. Check it out here! Your child’s scheduled class visit will be on: 6-2 Dolphins -- Friday, January 25 Team T-Shirt Order Each year, students and families are given the option of buying a Dolphins team t-shirt. They will be following a detailed step-by-step guide to build and implement their math skills to determine the area and perimeter of their room. We are in need of donations to complete this STEM project. Instead of individual supplies being brought in, we are asking for a $2.00 donation towards the materials that will be needed to complete the project. We are asking that all donations be in by Wednesday, December 19. If you are able to help volunteer for the STEM project, please sign up using the link below. www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C45AFAC28A1F85-stem We will also be hosting an Awards Ceremony for the First Semester on this day at the school. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Murdick ([email protected]) or Kristy Dargatz ([email protected]). Pumpkin Math Day The students will be completing educational fall-themed activities on Wednesday, October 31st. Salem Middle is going to start a clothing and linen drive this week for victims of Hurricane Florence. Our own Laurie Hayes, grew up in Beulaville, NC and has reached out to her former middle school, Chinquapin Elementary which is actually a K-8 school. The principal there said that she alone has over a 100 families that have lost everything! Currently, they are receiving the necessary food, water and cleaning supplies to help with the immediate recovery. The principal’s greatest fear is that in a month or two as the weather starts getting cooler, her students and families won’t have warm clothes including jackets. We also want to help with refilling linen closets. We are going to have a trailer parked out front that will be there until it’s filled! Salem staff will then personally drive it down to the school, where we will put it directly into the hands of their principal and her families. This is an exciting project for Salem Middle, and we can’t wait to start seeing that trailer fill up. Let’s see how fast we can do it. Please share with your family and friends and anyone else you think might want to contribute!! #fillitup4Chinquapin Beginning of Year for Parents/Guardians
If you have not done so yet, please take time and familiarize/complete the following:
You will be given additional forms to complete upon arrival to 6th grade. We thank you in advance for your help in completing and submitting all this paperwork! What Parents Should Know About BYOD First, it is optional. Students are NOT required to have a device. Whether or not a student brings a device to school is completely up to the parents/guardians. Having a device does have its perks. We use devices a lot in classes. Our class work often requires Internet searches, and homework is supported with digital and online resources, as well. To accommodate students that do not have a device, we will often pair students with device-holders or use classroom computers and laptops. Please know that we support whatever decision is made at home in regards to usage and ownership. Below are a few of our key team rules:
For a complete guide to the BYOD rules, please read through our Acceptable Use Policy and BYOD Contract. |
